SALISBURY CAMERA CLUB

Minutes of the Salisbury Camera Club Committee Meeting held at 7.00pm on Thursday 27th August 2009 at 108 Bouverie Avenue South, Salisbury.

Present: -

(Chairman) Peter Woodhouse, (Vice Chairman) Tony Oliver, (Vice Chairman) Phil Clegg, (Treasurer) Peter Read, (Asst. Treasurer) Roger Ellway (Secretary) Richard Temlett, Rose Snape, Dawn Walters and Amanda Herridge

1.               Apologies: - Ivor Smith

              Peter Woodhouse welcomed the new members of the committee.

2.               Minutes of last meeting:-

The minutes of the Committee meeting held on 29th April 2009, were circulated. The minutes were approved by the meeting and signed by the Chairman.

  1. Matters Arising:-

Tony Oliver reported that Trinity Photography and West Moors Studio had been in touch with him and would like to run another studio evening for members but they would like to make a charge to of £15.00 per head to cover their costs.

4.               Treasurer's Report: -

Peter Read reported that there is £830.63 in the savers account, £91.00 in the current account and £51.85 in Cash. Peter also reported that the HSBC bank in Wilton will be closing on the 30th November and thinks the account will be transferred to Salisbury. The new Projector cost £1222.16 and the Laptop £771.68

5.               Secretary's Report: -

Richard said there had been very little correspondence over the summer break. The communications their have been, have either been forwarded to the Chairman Peter Woodhouse, Tony Oliver or Peter Read or posted on the Salisbury Camera Club web site News section.

6.               Projector and Computer Update

              Over the summer break the club have purchased a Epson EH-TW2800 Digital Projector and a Acer Aspire 6935G 644G32Bn with the WUXGA display, WUXGA being 1920 x 1080 pixel display. Peter, Richard and Tony tested and calibrated these in the club meeting room and were very impressed with the results and are sure all the club members will be very pleased with their Projected Digital Images. The chairman thanked Peter, Richard and Tony for there efforts in procuring these over the summer.

7.              SPF Annual Exhibition

              Tony agreed to be the clubs contact for the SPF Annual Exhibition and would forward his email address to the SPF.

  1. Bi-monthly Competitions Classes:-

After some discussion it was agreed that Tony O’Reilly, Sarah Shelley and Austin Thorpe would be promoted from the Chaplin Bowl (Silver) Class to the Toomey Trophy (Gold) Class.

  1. 2009/2010 Programme Update:-

The Programme for 2009/2010 is now complete. Peter Woodhouse pointed out that the spelling of Lambeth on the 4th Jan 2010 was wrong. Richard agreed to correct it for the next printing.

Peter Read suggested that we should make a big thing of the “An AV Evening”.  A presentation by Ian Bateman FRPS, MPAGB, on the 12th October.  As Ian is one of the leading exponents in AV presentation in the UK. After some discussion it was decided that the club could only accommodate an additional 15 people in the hall. Richard agreed to contact Andover Split Image, Fordingbridge and Viewfinders but limiting each club to 5 members, but only do this after the first meeting just to make sure that we can accommodate an additional 15 people.

  1. Fordingbridge Camera Club Friendly Interclub Photo Challenge

The club received an invitation to take part in the Fordingbridge Camera Club Friendly Interclub Photo Challenge, as Fordingbridge wanted an answer as soon as possible, Peter Read, Richard Temlett and Tony Oliver discussed this and agreed Salisbury Camera Club would take part in this challenge, as it was enjoyed by all those that attended last year. Richard confirmed this by email.

11.               Latest Epson Products

Those present agreed that they would like to take advantage of Epson’s offer to demonstrate their latest products free of charge to the club. Tony agreed to try and arrange this for 30th November 2009.

12.               A.O.B.: -

It was agreed that the committee would meet on Wednesday the 7th October at the Chairman's house to select the prints required for the SPF League, SPF Exhibition and the Monday Club. The committee would try to select the Digital Images required for the same competitions on the 5th October either before or after the Mary Luckham Trophy judging.

Peter Woodhouse had asked Waterstones if the club could display photos in their shop, they said that it was booked until August 2010 but there was a 4 or 5 week slot starting on the 22nd August 2010, Peter agreed to follow this up and also to enquire what the position is for displaying pictures in the Salisbury Library.

Amanda Herridge asked if the titles of the prints could be read out prior to the judging on club quarterly competition nights. Peter Read said that Viewfinders always read out the Title at their competitions. After discussing the merits or other wise it was decided to try it on the first Bi-Monthly and then make a decision on what to do for the rest of the year.

Roger Ellway and Richard Temlett suggested that a survey of member’s camera equipment would be useful so that other members would know who to contact if they wanted to know about a particular camera. Phil Clegg said that this information could get into the wrong hands and he would not be prepared to fill one in. some others also had similar concerns, so it was decided that we would not proceed with this idea. Members present agreed that they would be happy to state what make of camera they used but not the model.
