Salisbury Camera Club Bi-Monthly Competitions
Following lengthy discussion at the club committee meeting it has been agreed that the following amendments
to the club rules for Bi-monthly competitions will apply with effect from September 2008. The Committee
realise that some members will be disappointed by the changes, but it is necessary to reduce the
workload on judges on these nights. A downside to our growing membership of active photographers
is that we have been putting judges under unfair pressure to get through the evenings work. After
discussing this with all available judges and other clubs, it is accepted that the maximum pieces
of work that can be realistically judged in an evening is 80. The following have therefore been agreed
with this criteria in mind.
- Salisbury Camera Club will no longer continue with slide entries for the open and set subject bi-monthly
comps. There is an extremely limited entry at present, with little or no new work. Discontinuing
will be in line with many other SPF clubs, and will free up time for other competition areas.
- The maximum print entries for any single night will be 80. Members will be limited to a maximum
of 2 prints in the open section and 2 prints in the set subject. The actual number available for
set subject entries will be determined after the 2 open prints per member has been taken into
account. This may mean a further reduction of set subject entries on the night if necessary (set
subject entries should therefore be numbered 1 and 2).
- Open prints should still be submitted the week prior to the bi-monthly competition. Set subject
entries can still be brought in on the night.
- There has been some understandable confusion regarding the current criteria for the two print categories.
The following clarification is therefore made, which supersedes any previous interpretation. The
only criteria applicable will be that of photographic ability. The less able members will be in the
Silver group and the higher ability members will compete in the Gold group
i) Silver group entrants will compete for the Chaplin Bowl.
Print entries for this group can be on any size mount up to a maximum
of 500mm x 400 mm.
- Gold group entrants will compete for the Toomey Trophy.
Print entries for this group must be
on mounts of 500mm x 400mm.
- All members’ competition category will be reviewed and agreed between the individual member
and the committee annually. Ideally this will be undertaken at the end of each season, but will be
completed by the latest 2 weeks prior to the first bi-monthly competition in the new season.
Should there be a dispute; the
final decision will be the committee’s.
